Lent is a time of repentence and renewal. It is a 40 day journey through the Passion of Jesus Christ, leading up to His resurrection on Easter Sunday.
Throughout this Lenten journey, we invite you to join us for any and all events, activities and devotions, whether they take place at Christ the King or in your own home.
Minimum expectations for Catholics
If you are able, you may fast and abstain beyond the minimum. Jesus, Moses, and Elijah each fasted for forty days. Makes some good decisions about what and when you will eat and drink for the next 40 days.
Make time for prayer and good works by abstaining from distractions and entertainments.
How can you give your time as an act of charity? Can you help keep your house and neighborhood tidy? Can you introduce yourself to someone new at church each week? Can you write a complimentary note to a friend or family member? If you are a parent or godparent, can you spend some quality spiritual time with your children and godchildren? Do you keep in touch with your parish community, your neighborhood community?
With what skills has God endowed you? How do you put your abilities and talents to use in your home, neighborhood, parish, and civic community?
How do you share your treasure? The Bible recommends tithing, a contribution of ten percent to charity. What would ten percent of your gross income be? How close to that figure is your giving? Who benefits from your generosity? Could you live on less if it meant helping someone in need? Are you keeping up with your pledge to your parish? What other donations can you make to charity?
